PV Varsity Exhibition Game
The late summer sun was just starting to dip behind the trees as I pulled into the parking lot of the local high school, camera gear riding shotgun. Tonight was my very first time photographing an exhibition football game, and my nerves were running just as fast as my excitement. The stadium lights were already warming up, casting a golden glow over the field, and I could hear the distant thump of the marching band’s drums. It was the kind of evening that felt bigger than it was—a small-town scrimmage, sure, but for me, it was the start of something new.
From the moment I stepped onto the sideline, I could feel the pulse of the game. Players ran through warmups, helmets gleaming, while coaches barked last-minute instructions. The whistle blew, and just like that, the action was everywhere—fast, unpredictable, and impossible to fully anticipate. My heart raced as I chased the plays with my lens, trying to capture the perfect moment: the quarterback’s release, a receiver’s fingertip grab, the raw emotion of a touchdown celebration. Every click of the shutter carried the pressure of wanting to do justice to the energy unfolding in front of me.
By the time the final whistle sounded, my legs were tired, my shoulders ached from carrying gear, and my memory cards were nearly full—but I couldn’t stop smiling. I’d come here to capture a football game, but what I left with was so much more: the thrill of the crowd, the joy of the players, and the satisfaction of knowing I’d frozen those moments in time. Driving home under the glow of the streetlights, I realized that this first game was just the beginning of a new passion—and I couldn’t wait to get back on the sidelines.
